Covid Clinic Update
Friday March 9th 2021
Update on Covid 19 vaccination programme. On the 8th of April 2021 the Australian federal government has recommended that people under the age of 50 should not have the AZ vaccine, unless the risk of catching the disease, outweighs the very small risk of complication from the vaccine. Currently the recommended vaccine for under 50 years old is the Pfizer vaccine. If you are 50 years or older the AZ vaccine is still recommended and we are continuing to vaccinate 100 patients per week (as per our allocation from the federal government). If you under 50 and have had a AZ vaccine, there is no cause for alarm, but monitor for severe headache for the first 3 weeks after the first vaccination. The recommendation is to proceed with the second AZ vaccine at the 12 week mark, as the risk appears to be isolated to the first dose. Elermore Vale General Practice does not have Pfizer vaccine.
Important points to note about our Covid Vaccination Clinic process
We are only receiving 80 to 100 vaccines each week. Our practice cares for over 5000 people.
The online booking service now has many hundreds on the waiting list. If you have successfully reserved a vaccine, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED IN DUE TIME. PLEASE BE PATIENT. THIS MAY TAKE WEEKS FOR YOR TURN. YOU WILL NOT MISS OUT ON A COVID-19 VACCINATION!
With such a small weekly allotment of vaccine, to prevent making appointments that we can't honour, we are releasing messages for vaccinations in small batches to those on the waiting list. This will hopefully ensure we always have adequate stock on hand.
If you cannot access the internet or download the Automed AMS Connect app please call 0431 306 894 between 2pm and 3pm weekdays. Again, this phone is receiving a huge volume of calls and you may not get through easily. Please be patient, wait a few days and try again. DO NOT CALL THE SURGERY ABOUT MAKING A COVID VACCINE APPOINTMENT. IT ONLY CLOGS THE LINES AND PREVENTS US PROVIDING OUR NORMAL CARE.
If you do feel the need to talk to our staff about the Covid Vaccination programme, please be patient, leave it a while, even a week or so before calling. Our staff will thank you. YOU WILL NOT MISS OUT ON A DOSE!
Finally, our doctors and nurses are working through their lunch breaks to provide our daily clinic.
Be nice to them ;)
